Care For Your Gums When You’re Outside

While it is ideal if you can floss, brush and rinse after every meal, sometimes this is just not possible. You may be at the office or out and about where you need a more portable and publicly friendly solution to removing plaque quickly after eating. The good news is there are two easy solutions that can work for you in virtually any setting.

Sugar free gum
Saliva is plaque’s natural enemy so you should consider chewing on a piece of sugar free gum to help stimulate saliva production. You can actually use your tongue to run the chewing gum along your teeth, taking advantage of its stickiness to rub off plaque. Make sure you spit out the gum quickly after you have finished using it to clean your teeth so the bacteria doesn’t hang around in your mouth.

Unsweetened cranberry juice
Cranberry juice has in-built anti-adhesive properties that can prevent plaque from attaching to your teeth. Therefore by swishing some cranberry juice around your mouth and swallowing immediately after eating you can prevent bacteria from being able to build up at all. Be sure to use juice that has not had sugar added to it.
